Welcome to Showcase U! I am happy to have this opportunity to discuss with you a variety of academic issues that you will face on a daily basis. Our topics will be relative to high school, college, scholarship opportunities and meeting the NCAA Eligibility Center requirements.
I know first hand what student athletes go through when striving to leave the safety nest of their home, to a better place (which in my opinion is college). I also know first hand what parents go through.
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t have $100,000 lying around to send my son to school. But I knew one thing: I was going to do everything and use every resource available to help him get one. I was experiencing one major problem, however: my Son, he was thinking more about the sport rather than his academics and was not realizing that you cannot have one without the other. This is where GradeCheck (.net) comes in.
I founded GradeCheck (.net) in 1997 and incorporated it in 2004. I established GradeCheck because as a parent, I felt I had an obligation to make sure he succeeded in the classroom and understood how he could become eligible for a college scholarship.
All students hoping to play college sports must register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Eligibility Center and meet their requirements.
While in the process of monitoring my son’s grades and test scores, I developed a system that simplified the process of tracking my son’s academic records. (Because as you know, when our kids say the famous words, “Mom, I got this!” we know that this means we need to stay on top their academic progression, no matter what!)
Using this system, I monitored my son’s progress throughout his high school career. This system allowed me to determine what requirements he still needed to meet and what areas he needed to strengthen. And it took the mystery out of the entire NCAA Eligibility process.
The system not only allowed me to keep track of his progress, but also presented his eligibility status in a way that he could understand, and motivated him to study harder.
At the end of his senior year, he was declared eligible by the NCAA Eligibility Center to receive an athletic scholarship from Ohio University.
Now my online program that I developed for my son, is helping other student-athletes succeed. GradeCheck (.net) now provides academic guidance to any high school student athlete in the country who is hoping to receive an athletic scholarship from a college or university. www.gradecheck.net.
